Taught in Prague
Hi! My name is Sydnee Olsen and I’m from Minnesota! I graduated college with a degree in Event Management, and here I am a few years later teaching English in Prague. Moving abroad had been a dream of mine since I studied abroad in college, but it never seemed like the right time to pick up and leave. Until one day I went in to a meeting at my corporate job to get promoted, and then next thing I knew I quit. I was unhappy and needed to make a change, which brought me here!
Coming to Prague, I didn’t know a single soul. I was commended for my bravery all the while being terrified of what was to come. The Language House set me up with 4 other roommates and as cheesy as it sounds, we instantly clicked. It seems to me that you can’t break the TEFL bond! Everyone in our course became fast friends, I don’t think it was possible to have spent any more time together, from class to teaching to dinners and weekend outings, we were pretty much inseparable. TLH has a strong presence in Prague, and it helps make it feel like home.
With an Event Management degree, I knew next to nothing about teaching. But that’s okay! The amazing staff at TLH prepared me (and prepared me, and prepared me) to be the best teacher I could be. I got hired shortly after graduation and I now teach 6-8 year olds and work with an amazing family. Leaving everything in the US and coming to Prague can be scary, but TLH gave me my own Prague family and I couldn’t be happier with where I am today.
