Hello, my name is Becky and I am originally from the Windy City: Chicago! When I was sixteen, I thought I had my whole life figured out: I was going to become a history professor and teach at a university. But after grad school I was lost – I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. I knew I wanted to live abroad, and I liked teaching, but I wasn’t sure how I could combine those two passions. Fortunately, The Language House came to my rescue! My friend from grad school took the course and told me nothing but wonderful things. After talking with Chris and some of the other members of TLH, I decided to give them a chance. Let me tell you: if you are unsure about taking this course, stop doubting and just do it!
From the beginning, Chris was incredibly accommodating and always answered my many questions about the course and living in Prague. I immediately felt welcome during the orientation program – Nica gave a lot of fun and useful information that made my first couple months in Prague so much easier. My classmates and I clicked right away over the scavenger hunt, walking around Prague Castle, and going grocery shopping. The course was a challenge – it’s a lot of work to do in a short amount of time. But all of my observers gave me useful feedback, and the lectures were always fun and interesting. By the end of the course, I felt like I had all of the tools to be a successful teacher in Prague. But I not only had the tools, I also had the support. Staff members, especially Andrea, helped me prepare for my job interviews.
So far, things have been going great! I was hired before the course had finished, and after two months I have a full schedule and wonderful students. Every weekend I get to see museums and other historical places while enjoying the neverending flow of Czech pivo. Moving to Prague and taking a course with TLH was one of the best things I could have done for myself. Seriously, you have nothing to lose but so much to gain by coming here.
